This trip was undertaken as part of the Andalusian Cheesemaking Heritage Cooperation Project launched by 13 rural development groups in Andalusia.
A total of 50 people involved with the Andalusian artisan cheesemaking sector visited a number of locations during their three-day stay, including artisan cheese factories, Catalan development groups and the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
The cheesemakers were accompanied during their visit by technical staff from the development groups and other institutions in the sector, including the Association of Andalusian Artisan Cheesemakers, the Agricultural Research and Training Centres of Cordoba and Hinojosa del Duque (Cordoba province) and the University of Seville, all of which are involved in the project.
The Association of Catalan Cheesemakers received the Andalusian visitors and accompanied them throughout their stay.
The aim of this exchange of experiences was to enable both Andalusia’s artisan cheesemakers and the technical staff involved in the sector alike to witness at first hand the structure of Catalonia’s artisan dairy industry, an internationally-renowned network which has succeeded in placing the cheeses of Catalonia at the forefront of the European market.
